foodIf Spanish food could be described in three adjectives, one would say it is fun, flavoursome and favoured internationally. Spanish cuisine offers a range of options, suitable for all taste buds. We’re listing 5 of the meals you must try when in Spain:

Gazpacho
Gazpacho is among the most popular dishes one could enjoy in Spain or Portugal. Originating from the Southern region of Andalusia, this cold soup is made up of the reddest, ripest tomatoes and a selection of ingredients, mainly raw and blended vegetables. The dish is often eaten in summer, due to it being so refreshing – and is never not found at a tapas bar.

Paella
Although there are different versions and ingredients that make up a Paella, the traditional Paella Valenciana includes chicken or rabbit, saffron and beans – along with the most crucial ingredient of all, rice. This dish is a filling one, so keep your starter portions to a minimum!

Pisto
Pisto, otherwise known as the Spanish version of ratatouille, is mostly popular in the South of Madrid. It consists of onions, garlic, courgettes, peppers and tomatoes, which are all fried slowly in olive oil. Pisto is mainly served as a starter or side dish.

Patatas Bravas
This tapa is a favourite among the Spanish – The recipe varies around the country, but the main ingredient is fried potatoes that have been cut into irregular cubes and served with a sauce. In Madrid, bravas sauce is made with Spanish paprika, olive oil, flour and stock.

Tortilla Española
The traditional Spanish omelette is mainly made with eggs and potatoes, then fried in oil and served cold as an appetiser. It is a simple dish, but one that can be altered creatively and experimented upon with the use of different ingredients.
