Life cover is not just about leaving enough money behind to cover your debt and ensure your family’s financial future, it’s also about covering you when you are still alive. Let’s face it, most don’t like talking about death let alone being disabled.

What we forget is that disability cover is often included or could be in life policies.

This will cover you in the unfortunate event that you become partially or permanently disabled due to accident or injury.

Who will pay your monthly bills if you can no longer work?

If you are permanently disabled and unable to work anymore, depending on how much you are covered for, it could provide:

  • Your monthly expenses till you recover or can resume work again in your disabled capacity.
  •  A monthly income replacement till you reach retirement age and can use your pensions.
  • Your children’s education costs as you will no longer be able to pay for their education.
  •  Current and future medical expenses and care that goes along with your disability e.g. wheelchairs and maintenance, renovating your home to include ramps and open showers, and long-term care etc.
  • For future complications or medical procedures needed due to your disability.
  • Enough to pay off your mortgage or settle any debt so you have fewer monthly expenses.

Have you checked if your current life/disability cover is valid abroad? Each insurer has different underwriting rules and may not cover all benefits.
